Over a hundred thousand devotees observed the eight precepts at the special Dana, Seela, Bhavana religious programme of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya On the Poson Fullmoon Day of 02nd June. Starting this special religious programme, the devotees were placed on the eight precepts at 6.00am by Ven. Kanubichchiye Rathanajothi Thero of the Bomaluwa temple. The morning Buddha Pooja at 6.30am was conducted by Ven. Kirinde Gnanadarshana Thero of the Bomaluwa temple.
The Wesak Meditation programme of the monthly meditation programme series was held on the past 17th of May at the Sannipatha Shala of the Mahaviharaya with the participation of a large number of devotees.
The devotees were placed on the eight precepts at 6.00am and the Buddha Pooja was held at 6.30am.
On the Wesak Fullmoon Day on 03rd May, Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and the Mahaviharaya was filled with over hundred thousand devotees. Over twenty five thousand devotees observed the eight precepts, going along with the fullmoon poyaday religious programme of the Mahaviharaya.
At 6.00am, Ven. Kanubichchiye Rathanajothi Thero placed the devotees on the eight precepts and the Buddha Pooja was held at 6.30am with their participation. The break for morning Dana was give to the devotees at 7.00am.
The May Month's programme of the 'Monthly Meditation Programme Series' of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya will be conducted full day on Sunday the 17th May 2015. Under the advice, guidance and supervision of the Atamasthanadhipathi Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Nayaka Thero, this meditation programme series will be conducted by the veteran instructor of meditation Ven. Ranpathwila Wimalarathana (M.A.) Nayaka Thero.
The April programme of the monthly meditation programme series of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held during the whole day of the 26th Sunday at the Sannipatha Shala of the Mahaviharaya. A large number of devotees from all over the island participated in this programme. The meditation programme began at 6.00am with the devotees being placed in the eight precepts. From then onwards, the programme continued successfully through 3 stages with the devotees being instructed as a whole and individually and directing them towards the suitable methods of meditation. Proper guidance was given solving problems through Dhamma discussions as well as exchange of practical experience of the devotees.
A sacred sapling from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi was offered in commemoration of the 60th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the 4th King of Royal Bhutan.
In the morning of 11th April 2015, Prime Minister of Royal Bhutan Hon. Tshering Tobgay arrived at the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya and paid homage to Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Theo. Receiving a sacred Bodhi sapling from the esteemed Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi dwelling at the Anuradhapura Maha Viharaya to be planted in Bhutan in commemoration of the 60th Birthday of His Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the 4th King of Royal Bhutan was the purpose of this visit. This donation of the sacred Bodhi sapling to Bhutan, a foremost Buddhist country of the South Asia, was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka.
The Bak Poya Day religious programme of the monthly Fullmoon Poya Day religious programme series of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held successfully on the 3rd April with the participation of thousands of devotees.
At 6.00 am the devotees were placed on the eight precepts by Ven. Kanubichchiye Rathanajothi Thero of the Bomaluwa Temple. At 6.30 am, Buddha Pooja was offered at the main shrine room.
Indian Prime Minister HE Narendra Damodardas Modi visited the historical Mahaviharaya of Anuradhapura on the 14th March and paid homage to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
PM Modi who arrived at the Mahaviharaya in the morning, was received by HE President of Sri Lanka Maithreepala Sirisena. Afterwards, PM Modi paid homage to Atamasthanadhipathi Most Ven. Dr. Pallegeme Siriniwasa Nayaka Thero at the Visitor's Hall of the Mahaviharaya. There, Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thero presented the Indian PM with a silver tray inscribed with the image of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya and the wordings commemorating this historical event.
Over the thousand devotees from all over the island participated in the special First Anniversary Dana Sheela Bhawana religious programme of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya on the 05th of March 2015.
The religious programme began at 6.00 am with the group observing the eight precepts under the shade of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. The morning Buddha Pooja was held at 6.30 am and the devotees were offered with the morning Dana at 7.00 am.
The first Dhamma Talk of the day was delivered by Prof. Ven. Pathegama Gnanissara Thero of the Bhikshu University of Sri Lanka. The topic of the Dhamma Talk was "Existence of the World and the Regulatory Factors according to the Buddha Dhamma". At the end, the devotees entered in to a meaningful discussion with the Ven. Thero, bringing up their problems arose from the Dhamma Talk.
A group of Buddhist devotees from Maharashtra associated with the Global Vipassana Pagoda of Mumbai, India, who visited Sri Lanka recently came to meditate under the shade of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
The group of Dhamma scholar devotees led by the Meditation Guru Mr. Chandrashekhar of the Dhamma Niranjan Vipassana Centre of Nanded, India, paid homage to receive the blessings of Atamasthanadhipathi Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Nayaka Thero on the evening of 22nd February.
The February Month's Meditation Programme of the monthly Meditation Programme series of the historical Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held successfully during the whole day of 22nd February 2015 at the Mahaviharaya. A large number of devotees from all over the island participated in this programme.
Veteran instructor of meditation, Ven. Ranpathwila Wimalarathana (M.A.) Nayaka Thero conducted this programme. The Meditation Programme started at 6.00am with the observance of the eight virtues ended at 6.00pm after the discontinuation of the virtues. During this period, the devotees were practically directed towards the meditation while explaining what the Buddhist meditation is and giving proper instructions.
