Poson Sathi Pirith ceremony was held successfully

The 'Sathi Pirith Chant' in association with the Poson Poyaday religious programme of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held with much festivity. A large number of venerable Bhikkhus of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya participated in this week-long chanting of Pirith held at the Pirith Mandapaya under the shade of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.

The Poson Fullmoon Poya day religious programme of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held whole day on 19th June with much festivity under the shade of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Arahant Mahinda Maha Thero who arrived in Sri Lanka on the Poson Fullmoon Poyaday occurred 2,252 years ago, introduced the Buddha Dhamma officially to Sri Lanka. It was a special feature that, the religious programme of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was conducted commemorating this historical event.

Vow at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi to save the country from disaster

A Vow was entered into at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in the morning of this Wesak Fullmoon Poyaday, asking for saving the country from the present disaster of floods and earth slips due to heavy rains. Under the advice and guidance of Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thero, senior Govt. Officials including Anuradhapura GA Mr. D.P.U.Kumarasiri, Chief Secretary of the North Central Provincial Council Mr. W.A.Thilakaratne and DIG of Police to the North Central Province Mr. Ranjith Padmasiri performed this ancient traditional task.

Devotees reached the path to nirvana on the Wesak Fullmoon Poya Day

The 2016 Wesak Fullmoon Poyaday programme of the monthly religious programme series of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held whole day on 21st May under the shade of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. It was a specialty that, over 15,000 devotees observed the eight precepts even under the prevailing adverse weather conditions in the country.

The Bak month's programme of the monthly meditation programme series of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was conducted whole day on the 10 of April under the shade of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Under the advice and guidance of Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thero, veteran teacher of meditation Ven. Ranpathwila Wimalarathana (MA) Nayaka Thero conducted the meditation programme. Not less than 500 devotees from various parts of the island participated in this.

Aluth Sahal Mangalyaya held for Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi

The 'Aluth Sahal Mangalyaya' held to offer the prime harvest received by the farmers cultivating their lands to Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi was held on the 10th of April with much festivity. At this festival held with the state patronage, the farmers came from all over the island offered the prime harvest of their paddy lands to Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi with great piousness.

Medin Fullmoon Day Dana Sheela Bhawana religious programme of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was conducted successfully on the 22nd March 2016. It was a special feature on this day that, the religious programme of Mahaviharaya reaching its 3rd consecutive year. The aim of this programme is to direct the devotees towards the pure practical Theravada Buddhism following the service provided by the ancient Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya towards the Buddha Dhamma and the devotees. Thousands of devotees observed the eight noble precepts here.

'Duruthu Mangalyaya', the first festival of the year held for the Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi was held very successfully on the last Fullmoon Day 23rd of January according to the traditions. Under the advice and guidance of Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thero, the venerable Bhikkhus of the Bomaluwa Temple directed the dwellers of the duty villages to prepare the stipulated offerings.
