Light of Dhamma shines on the Duruthu Fullmoon Poya day

The Duruthu Poya programme of the monthly religious programme series of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was conducted whole day on he 12th of January 2017 under the shade of esteemed Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. It was a specialty here that, being the first programme of the year, it was organized based on the New Year.

Commencing the religious programme, the devotees were placed on the eight precepts at 6.00 am as usual. Ven. Kanubichchiye Rathanajothi thero of the Bomaluwa Temple placed the devotees on the eight precepts and conducted the morning Buddha Pooja at 6.30 am. The devotees were given the interval for the morning Dana at 7.00 am.

The first Dhamma Talk of the day started at 8.00 am. Lecturer of the Bhikshu University of Sri Lanka, Rajakeeya Panditha Ven. Wigamuwe Piyananda (BA Hons.) Thero delivered the Dhamma Talk based upon the "Mula Pariayaya Suthraya". At the end of the Dhamma Talk the devotees had the opportunity to clarify their problems in Dhamma. The Layman's Discourse at 9.15 am was delivered by Prof. H.M.D.R. Herath of the Department of Sinhala at the University of Peradeniya. "Nawa Wasara Saha Pudgalaya Pilibanda Bauddha Mathaya" was the topic. The noon Buddha Pooja was conducted at 10.30 am by Ven. Kirinde Gnanadarshana thero of the Bomaluwa Temple. The devotees had their interval for the noon Dana at 11.00 am.

The Jathaka Story Dhamma Talk was delivered at 12.00 pm. Bhanaka Rajakeeya Panditha Ven. Ankumbure Rewatha Thero delivered the Jathaka Story Dhamma Talk. The second Dahamma Talk of the day at 1.00 pm was delivered by Panditha Ven. Kanubichchiye Rathanajothi thero of the Bomaluwa temple. It was based upon the "Utthanawatho Sathimatho" Gatha in the Yamaka Wagga of the Dhammapada. Devotees got their questions in Dhamma answered by the venerable thero at the end.

Damsabha Mandapaya Dhamma Discussion commenced at 2.45 pm. The topic of discussion was "Singalowada Suthraya Saha Samaja Pragamanaya". The scholars Panditha Ven. Kapugollewe Rathanasiri (BA) thero, Mr. Waduge Karunarathna (MA) and Mr. Rathna Sri Bandara (MA) participated in this Dhamma discussion. The Meditation Programme was conducted at 4.00 pm by Panditha Ven. Ipalawa Pemananda thero. The final programme of the day, Bodhi Pooja was conducted by Ven. Kehelwala Rewatha (BA) thero at 5.00 pm. After the discontinuation of the precepts at 5.55 pm, the Duruthu Poyaday religious programme was concluded at 6.00 pm.

Over ten thousand devotees participated in this religious programme. Their impression was that, it was very important as the programme was planned to guide their lives successfully through the path of Dhamma. Also, the devotees said that it was beneficial for them.

 

Under the advice and guidance of Dr. Most Ven. Pallegama Siriniwasa Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka thero, this religious programme was coordinated by Ven. Kudaelagamuwe Gnanasiri (BA) thero of the Bomaluwa Temple.
